Why we walk...
Our number 1 reason to walk is for our daughter, Kate who was diagnosed in 2001 at the age of 21 with Type 1 Diabetes; just a month before she graduated from college and a year and a half before she and Rob were married. We also walk for our nephew, Parker, who was diagnosed at the age of 12, Ray's late brother had been diagnosed in his early 20's and Ray's late father who was also diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. We walk for our loved ones struggling with this disease and for many others like them.
In 2002 we began to raise funds and attempt to educate others that Juvenile or Type I Diabetes is an autoimmune disease, and that it takes insulin and testing to remain alive. It is not a disease they will grow out of; it is a disease that 80 or more children and adults will be diagnosed with everyday. WE WANT A CURE!
Over the years, we have sponsored events and provided proceeds from Euphemia Haye events to JDRF. We have the most fun, though, with the Walk for a Cure. Though we still volunteer with the Sarasota walk, we've spun off our own little rogue walk right here on Longboat Key! Throughout these efforts, and with your help and generosity, we have been able to give over two hundred thousand dollars for research. You would be amazed by what that has accomplished! Managing the disease has drastically improved over the last few years. People with Type 1 are living longer, fuller lives and that is thanks to the doctors, researchers, and those, like you, who support them and their work. The next step, the big hope, is to turn Type 1 into Type None.
It is possible, with your help!
Team Euphemia Haye
Thank you all for such a successful 2019 JDRF walk! We raised nearly $20,000 surpassing our $18,000 goal. Making us, once again, the top corporate fundraiser for the Sarasota/Manatee area. Amazing! Thank you!!
Help support our 2021 Walk Team! Our little rogue walk this year is “virtual” but we are still fundraising! And, if you want to walk, you can join up with the official JDRF One Walk on May 23 in Lakewood Ranch.
To donate and/or to learn more, check out our team page at JDRF… as always, we so appreciate the support you give!
